Research Uses
Unmanned Aerial Systems are used in a wide variety of research fields. One such field that is becoming reliant on UAS usage is wildlife research. They've begun using the Raven A, a 3 foot long UAS made specifically for the task of conducting aerial counts of Sandhill Cranes. Researchers have been able to take new photos using this method that catch animals in a more natural setting. Another field that has begun extensively using UAS is atmospheric research. NASA has begun a several year study using UAS to better understand our ozone layer, and how it reacts with water vapor. Researchers hope to determine how changes in stratospheric water vapor can affect global climate.
